A long time mission of ours is to create beautiful stationery and gifts in the most environmentally-conscious way possible.
Since our products are largely made of paper, this can be quite a challenge! We’ve worked hard to find ways that either minimize the amount of plastic packaging that we use, or eliminate it altogether.
Tear-Off Packaging
Our mini notes, recipe card books, notepads and postcard books are designed to be completely plastic free. They’re glued on one edge for easy tear-off, and protected with a cover as well as a cardboard backing.
The entire book can be used and recycled, with no extra packaging.
Minimising Plastic Sleeves
Our greeting cards are protected in plastic sleeves, which can be recycled. The plastic protects cards from dust and sticky fingers, which can accumulate quite quickly in a retail setting.
(We’ve experimented with compostable sleeves in the past, but found out that our recycling facilities in Canada are just not equipped to handle them yet.)
When you order multiple cards from our online shop, we take the time to package them altogether in one sleeve. Don’t need a sleeve at all? Simply leave us a note when you order!
You're also welcome to leave or return the sleeves in-store. Unless it's visibly dirty, we will reuse it!
Re-Using Boxes
As a product-based business, we receive shipments on a weekly basis. If the boxes that arrive are intact with no dents or rips, we save them for re-use!
This charming sticker, designed by Lauren Kenney, adds a thoughtful touch to our re-used packages.
Stamp Culture
Very early on, we decided on the use of stamps to decorate our packaging, from stiff mailers to the handle bags that we use in-store. Not only does this increase the recyclability of the packaging (no extra stickers to peel off), but stamps also add to the hand-made nature of our products.
(It also makes perfect work for eager little hands!)
Let’s keep the conversation going
We’re constantly trying to find new ways to make our small business even more sustainable. If you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear from you!
