It all starts with a papercutting.

Preferring a blade to a pen, Ali creates her designs by hand-cutting paper. This illustration technique uses intricate cuts rather than drawn lines. Pulling inspiration from the organic beauty of science and nature, originals can take over 40 hours to complete. Designs are then lasercut in Light + Paper’s Toronto studio.
