 Instructions:

  • Mix the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Slowly pour the warm water while stirring.
  • Start mixing the dough with your hands once the dough becomes too tough.
  • Knead the dough for a couple minutes until it is smooth and pliable.
  • Place a good chunk of dough on a piece of parchment paper. Put another piece of parchment on top of the dough. Roll it out until ⅛ inch or 3.175 mm thick. If the ornaments are too thick, it will crack because of the trapped air.
  • Remove the top parchment paper and cut out the shapes of the ornaments. Make sure not to move the cut out pieces.
  • Peel away the excess dough and leave the shapes on the parchment paper.
  • Take a straw or toothpick to make a hole for the ribbon or string to go through.
  • You can put texture on the ornaments using a fork or stamp.
  • Transfer the parchment paper with the shapes onto a baking sheet. Bake the ornaments in a 150°C oven for about an hour. They are done when they feel hard.
  • Let the dough completely cool before painting.
  • Once the paint is dry, add a ribbon or string. Hang and enjoy! 🎄

NOTE: Make sure to hang these high up on your tree and away from pets. Though all of the ingredients are technically edible, if a few ornaments are ingested the high salt content could lead to a dog becoming very sick.
